Puncture Repair in Ilford
Fast, safe and BS AU 159 compliant puncture repairs while you wait at UK Tyre Centre.
A replacement tyre after a puncture can be costly and often unnecessary. Our expert team at UK Tyre Centre provides compliant puncture repairs that save you money and get you safely back on the road. We use approved repair materials and methods and provide honest advice if a tyre cannot be safely repaired.
Safety Checks We Perform
To ensure the tyre is suitable for repair (per BS AU 159), our technicians confirm:
- The tread depth is at least 1.6mm across the central ¾ of the tyre.
- No exposed cords or internal carcass damage.
- No sidewall or shoulder damage (repairs are for the tread area only).
- The puncture size is ≤ 6mm diameter.
- No previous unsafe or poorly positioned repairs.
Can’t be repaired? We’ll show you why and recommend the best-value replacement from our stock.
How We Repair Your Puncture
- Remove the wheel/tyre assembly and inspect inside & out.
- Locate debris and remove it; mark and assess the injury zone.
- Drill/clean the channel (≈6mm carbide mill) to prepare for a plug-patch.
- Buff inner liner, apply vulcanising solution and install a combination plug-patch.
- Patch is pulled and seated; stem trimmed flush; inner liner sealed.
- Re-fit tyre, inflate to spec, and balance the wheel.
- Final leak test and road-safe hand-over.

How long does a puncture repair take?
Typically 30–45 minutes including inspection, repair and balancing. Busy times may vary.
Is every puncture repairable?
No. Injuries in the sidewall/shoulder, large holes, run-flat damage or low tread usually mean replacement is safer.
Will the repair last?
Yes—when the tyre is otherwise sound. A plug-patch repair is a permanent fix for the life of the tyre.
